The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program aims to safeguard the health of women, infants, and children up to age 5 by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, offering guidance on nutrition, supporting and educating chest/breastfeeding parents and connecting families to additional resources in the community.

The three figures above show breastfeeding initiation breastfeeding rates at 2 months, and 6 months for WIC participants. Since March 2021, all three groups have seen an increase in breastfeeding rates. The most improvement was seen in breastfeeding rates at 2 and 6 months. In January 2019, 27.5% of WIC participants were breastfeeding at 2 months, which rose to 45.1% of participants in March 2023. The breastfeeding rate at 6 months nearly doubled from 11.9% in January 2019 to 23.4% in March 2023.
