HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Services
The mission of CCPHD’s Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI)/HIV Services is to reduce and prevent the transmission of STI/HIV infections in our county. We accomplish this by providing clinical services in the strictest of confidence to all county residents who seek care and/or education for the prevention of STIs.

Chlamydia, one of the most frequently reported bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States, is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. Although symptoms of chlamydia are usually mild or absent, serious complications that cause irreversible damage, including infertility, can occur "silently" before a woman ever recognizes an infection. Under-reporting of chlamydia is substantial because most people with chlamydia are not aware of their infections and do not seek testing.

Gonorrhea Incidence Rate in Calhoun County
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is typically asymptomatic and easy to treat, but, gonorrhea has developed resistance to antibiotics over the years, complicating treatment. Left untreated, gonorrhea can cause serious and permanent health problems in both women and men. In women, gonorrhea is a common cause of pelvic inflammatory disease.
Gonorrhea rates in Calhoun County have seen a large decrease since 2021. The highest rates of gonorrhea are seen in people aged 20-24 in Calhoun County. More information can be found on the Gonorrhea Incidence Rate page.
