TCC Report Card 2017 - Teen Pregnancy
TEEN PREGNANCY
GOAL: Decrease the occurrence of teen pregnancy in Calhoun County
HOW ARE WE DOING? Calhoun County has seen a substantial decrease in teen pregnancy and birth rates in the past decade; however, both rates are consistently higher than the state and racial disparity is evident. In 2015, Black females aged 15 to 19 years had a pregnancy rate 2.3 times larger than their White counterparts. The pregnancy rate for Black females aged 15 to 19 years was 81.6 (per 1,000 population) compared to 35.6 for White females. Both rates were the lowest rates experienced over the past five years. Additionally, Black females were found to access prenatal care later than other races.
