Halloway House
A Good Idea
Description
The Halloway House provides housing to former foster youth between ages 18-24. Up to eight people live at Halloway House and the programs provided by Larkin Street help them transition from adolescence into adulthood by giving them the tools and skills necessary to live independently. Many former foster youth end up living on the streets because they graduate from the foster care system without the means to support themselves. Since 2007, Halloway house has assisted young adults in these situations by filling their immediate housing needs and also helps them to obtain long-term independence through counseling and support programs.
Goal / Mission
To provide temporary housing to former foster youth between the ages 18 and 24 and to help them become independent adults.
Results / Accomplishments
In 2009, Halloway House provided housing to 20 young adults, resulting in over 2,500 nights off the street. In addition, the program provided over 1,000 individual independent living skills sessions.
